The night was a long, sweltering one, upstairs, above Moon River Brewery. Though air conditioning was not present, the turn-out was great! Everyone's work looked beautiful hung, and the food was superb! Those chocolate covered strawberries, especially, had no trouble disappearing at a steady rate throughout the evening. It was a truly memorable experience.
All of the photographs below were taken just prior to the opening.

Conversations will open Friday, May 13 at Moon River’s exhibition space with a reception from 6-7:30 pm and run through Friday May 20. An artist’s talk will be held Monday, May 16 from 2:30-3:30 pm. Conversations is the highly anticipated exhibition of seven young artists skilled in a variety of media, ranging from large-format drawings to symbolic portraits on toned velvet. The theme refers to this lottery’s bold attempt to reconcile their ambitions. They are, at once, conversing with each other, with their own series, and with their audience. A virulent collaborative piece has also been undertaken. It is presently undecided if it will be unveiled. The exhibition includes the work of Courtney Holsinger, Allison Horner, Andrew Humke, Janna Linsenmeyer, Lauren Markham, Mimi Silver and Pamela Sutherland. Humke is responsible for the aggressive large-format figurative drawings depicting apocalyptic mayhem. Countering Humke, Linsenmeyer, constructs gravity defying, ghost-like hangings to conjure the viewer’s inner Zen. Holsinger’s contemporary take on Old Masters and mythology communicate her background in architecture and political science. The dark undertones of Markham’s obsessively detailed still life’s describe her relationships with loved ones. Horner focuses on merging abstraction and narration to reveal autobiographical meaning, while Silver juxtaposes the elegant and the grotesque from her recent series Southern Gothic.
