The beets unabashedly appear within the conversation, flaunting its individual characteristics while demonstrating its bravery. Humans, like the beets, must boldly interact with one another and grapple the ugliness of reality. These experiences mold our individual concept of the world, shaping our appearance in the world, as well as, the way we perceive one another.

The still life as a subject matter and oil paints as the means to represent the still life, are two of the most traditional tools used in the making of art. They survive through the fads that briefly enamor our society. They represent the strength humans must procure to stand against the pernicious influences of society.

Through my use of produce, situated within a still life, and the use of oil paint to represent the beets, I produce imagery that possesses the grit to survive in the ever changing world.
